Now there are two reasons to “go green” this upcoming March 17 when we celebrate St.
Patrickâ??s Day. The first and most obvious is that the color green is most often associated with this ancient Irish holiday that honors the fact that St. Patrick drove the snakes out of Ireland. Or, that all even slightly Irish people have license to drink to excess on that day. Take your pick
The second reason is that due to environment concerns, many people
have stopped sending printed vintage St. Patrick’s Day greeting cards and are sending digital
Saint Patrickâ??s Day cards instead. This way, no trees
have to die in the process and people can be just as festive. It’s kind of ironic that vintage cards that were created without the benefit of computers, scanners, software or any modern contrivances would be sent through cyberspace by e-mail. But it’s actually pretty cool. Because the Internet has given new life to these old images, preserving them forever.
